After studying visual communication and effective slide design for a presentation, return to your informative speech from Module 4. Using what you learned in Module 5, create a slideshow to support your informative presentation’s content. You may use any slide design tool—PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides, etc.—but remember that you want to make your presentation come alive with large and powerful visuals.

Here are a few reminders from our readings and lessons in this module:

  1. Be sure to consider the one main idea per slide concept when designing your presentation into a slideshow format. You may use as many slides as necessary to visually communicate the content in your informative speech. Your final slide must include all sources in APA format.
  2. Keep your slides simple. One large, clear image—especially a full-screen image—with a little bit of text is all you need.
  3. Slides are not the same thing as documents! In your informative speech, you delivered your presentation’s message verbally. You don’t have to include your speaking notes word for word on your slides. Instead, support your speech content with large, clear images.
  4. Decrease clutter, noise, and slide “junk” to maximize the signal (the main idea) on each slide. Limit using animations, builds, and effects which can become tiresome and distracting.
  5. Carefully consider visual design elements like font choice and color.

If it helps with slideshow creation, you can use the “Presenter’s Notes” section of your presentation design tool to include your presentation outline.
